2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
For Models with a Standard Key and Separate Remote (Non-Smart Key System)
Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition switch.
- Step 2: Make sure all doors are closed.
- Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the process.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the ON position (without starting the engine), then turn it OFF and remove it — all within 10 seconds.
- Step 5: Within 20 seconds, close and open the driver’s door three times quickly.
- Step 6: Reinsert the key, turn it to the ON position, then turn it OFF and remove it again — within 10 seconds.
- Step 7: The door locks should cycle (lock and unlock) automatically, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 8: Press the UNLOCK button on the remote fob. The locks should cycle again to confirm successful programming.
- Step 9: Repeat Step 8 for each additional remote you want to program.
- Step 10: Exit the vehicle, close all doors, and test each remote to ensure all functions are working correctly. 2011 Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions For Models Equipped with a Smart Key System Important Notes: You can store up to four remote fobs in memory. Programming a fifth remote will erase all previously stored remotes. When programming a new remote, you must reprogram all remotes you intend to keep active in the same session. Have all remote fobs ready before starting the procedure.
Smart Key Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Close all doors.
- Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure the driver’s door is unlocked.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition.
- Step 4: Complete the following steps within 25 seconds of inserting the key:
- A) Press the driver’s power door lock switch to LOCK, then to UNLOCK.
- B) Repeat this lock/unlock cycle two more times (three total).
- C) Press the lock switch once more to LOCK.
- D) Remove the key from the ignition, then reinsert it.
- E) Repeat the key removal and reinsertion three additional times (four total).
- F) Turn the ignition to the START position and let the engine run for 3 seconds.
- G) Proceed to Step 5 within 60 seconds of starting the engine. Timing is critical: If Steps 4A–F are not completed within 25 seconds, or if Step 5 is not started within 60 seconds of engine start, the process will fail and must be restarted.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the LOCK position. A buzzer will sound twice, and the door locks will automatically cycle from locked to unlocked, confirming programming mode.
- Step 6: Press any button (LOCK, UNLOCK, or PANIC) on the remote. The buzzer will sound twice and the locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat this step for any additional remotes within 30 seconds.
- Step 7: Complete the process by either removing the key from the ignition or turning the ignition to the ON position.
- Step 8: Test each remote to verify proper operation of both the keyless entry and keyless start systems. If a remote does not function, repeat the entire programming procedure.
Security Reminder:
- If a remote has been lost, programming a new one will automatically erase all existing codes. For safety and reliability, always reprogram all remotes you want to continue using during the same session. Any remote not included will no longer work with the vehicle.
