2012 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob and Ignition Key – LaCrosse
Important Notice: The 2012 Buick LaCrosse may use either a flip-style ignition key or a smart key system (Keyless Access). Follow the appropriate procedure based on the type of key your vehicle uses and whether any working keys are available.
Section 1: Ignition Key Programming – Flip Key Models
A. If All Keys Are Lost: This model does not support onboard programming if no functional ignition key is available. A new key must be programmed by a qualified automotive technician using diagnostic equipment.
B. If You Have One Working Flip Key and Wish to Add Another:
- Step 1: Insert the current programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
- Step 2: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
- Step 3: Within five seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
- Step 4: Wait for the security light to turn off, which indicates successful programming.
- Step 5: Repeat Steps 1–4 to program any additional keys.
Section 2: Smart Key Fob Programming – Keyless Access Models
A. If All Smart Keys Are Lost:
- Step 1: Insert the emergency key into the door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 2: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: ""Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.""
- Step 3: Wait 10 minutes until the DIC shows: ""Press Engine Start Button to Learn."" Then press the ignition button.
- Step 4: The DIC will again display ""Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.""
- Step 5: Repeat Step 3 two more times (three cycles total). After the third cycle, the DIC will show: ""Ready For Remote #1.""
- Step 6: Remove the cupholder insert from the center console to access the transmitter pocket. Place the new remote inside the pocket.
- Step 7: Press the ignition button. Once accepted, the DIC will show ""Ready For Remote #2.""
- Step 8: Remove the remote and press the Unlock button.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 6–8 for each additional remote.
- Step 10: When complete, press and hold the ignition button for 5 seconds to exit programming mode.
B. If You Have One Working Smart Key and Want to Add Another:
- Step 1: Place the working smart key in the cupholder.
- Step 2: Insert the emergency key from the new transmitter into the door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 3: The DIC will show: ""Ready For Remote #2, 3, 4 or 5.""
- Step 4: Remove the cupholder insert and place the new smart key in the transmitter pocket located inside the center console.
- Step 5: Press the ignition button. The DIC will confirm when the remote has been accepted.
- Step 6: Remove the transmitter and press the Unlock button.
- Step 7: Repeat Steps 4–6 to add more remotes.
- Step 8: Once all keys are programmed, press and hold the ignition button for 5 seconds to exit programming mode.
