Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2012 Scion tC
Note: These steps apply to programming the remote (keyless entry) functions of a remote head key. If your key includes a transponder chip, the physical key must be cut and electronically programmed by a qualified technician. If it is a non-transponder key, only the key blade needs to be cut—no programming is required for the ignition portion.
Step-by-Step Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Begin with the key completely removed from the ignition.
- Step 2: Open and unlock the driver’s door. Make sure all other doors, including the trunk, are closed.
- Step 3: Within 5 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and remove it twice.
- Step 4: Close and open the driver’s door two times.
- Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition again and then remove it.
- Step 6: Close and open the driver’s door two more times.
- Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted.
- Step 8: Close the driver’s door.
- Step 9: Turn the ignition ON, then OFF without starting the engine.
- Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 11: The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to indicate the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 12: On the first remote: Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for about 1.5 seconds. Release both buttons, then immediately press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds.
- Step 13: The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming. To program another remote, repeat Step 12 for each one. If you are done, proceed to Step 14.
- Step 14: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. The process is now complete.
