2012 Subaru Impreza Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
NOTE: These steps may appear complex at first, but they’re straightforward once reviewed. You can repeat the process if needed—no harm if it doesn’t work the first time.
Step-by-Step Programming Guide:
- Step 1: Identify your key type: Separate Remote: This procedure will fully program the remote. Remotehead Key: This procedure programs only the remote buttons. The key blade must be cut and the transponder chip programmed separately to start the engine.
- Step 2: Carefully open the remote: Use a small Phillips screwdriver (Remotehead Key) or a flat blade tool (Separate Remote). Write down the 8-digit numeric code found inside. Only use numbers—ignore any rows with letters.
- Step 3: Confirm all vehicle doors, including the trunk, are securely shut.
- Step 4: Sit in the driver’s seat, close the door, and proceed immediately.
- Step 5: Insert the key and turn it from LOCK to ON (not start) ten times within 15 seconds. If done correctly, the vehicle’s lights will flash and a chime will sound, indicating entry into programming mode.
- Step 6: Open and close the driver’s door once. The chime will continue.
- Step 7: Enter the remote’s 8-digit code: Press the LOCK button on the driver's door panel the number of times corresponding to the first digit. Press UNLOCK to confirm that digit and move to the next. Repeat this for all 8 digits. After entering all digits, press UNLOCK once more.
- Step 8: Repeat the exact sequence from Step 7 to confirm the code. A chime will sound for 30 seconds if entered successfully.
- Step 9: To program another remote, repeat Steps 5–8 for each additional fob.
- Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition. Programming is now complete.
