Programming with an Existing Programmed Key: Use this procedure when at least one working key is already programmed to the vehicle.

  • Step 1: Insert the existing programmed key into the ignition.
  • Step 2: Turn the key to the ON/RUN position and wait a few seconds.
  • Step 3: Turn the key back to the LOCK/OFF position and remove it from the ignition.
  • Step 4: Within five seconds, insert the new key into the ignition.
  • Step 5: Turn the new key to the ON/RUN position.
  • Step 6: Wait for the security light on the instrument panel to turn off. This confirms that the new key has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: If programming more keys, repeat Steps 1 through 6 for each additional key.
  • Step 8: Once all keys are programmed, verify that each one starts the vehicle and operates as expected.

Programming Without a Working Key: If no programmed keys are available, the vehicle requires professional assistance using specialized equipment.

  • Step 1: Confirm that the replacement key or remote fob is compatible with the vehicle’s year and model.
  • Step 2: Ensure the vehicle has adequate battery charge and is safely parked.
  • Step 3: Arrange service with an automotive technician who has access to factory-grade diagnostic tools.
  • Step 4: The technician will connect a programming device to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port.
  • Step 5: Through the secured system, the new key or remote fob will be registered and authorized for use.
  • Step 6: Once the programming process is complete, all newly added remotes will be tested for proper functionality.
  • Step 7: If more than one remote is needed, request that all be programmed during the same session.
  • Step 8: After the process, confirm that each remote starts the vehicle and operates features like locking and unlocking.

Additional Notes:

Proof of ownership may be required for key programming if no valid keys are present. All remotes may need to be present during programming, as some systems erase older keys when new ones are added. Keep all programmed keys stored securely to avoid future lockout situations.
