Programming Guide for 2013 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS
(Smart Key System Only)
If You Have One Recognized Transmitter: Use this method to add a new remote fob when at least one is currently recognized by the vehicle.
Note: Vehicles sold in Canada require two recognized remotes to complete this process.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely turned off.
- Step 2: Place the recognized transmitter(s) in the cupholder. Keep the new fob nearby.
- Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s side door lock.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, or 4.”
- Step 6: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing toward the front of the vehicle. (The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console between the front seats.)
- Step 7: A chime will sound to confirm successful programming. The DIC will either prompt for the next key or display: “Maximum Number of Electronic Keys Learned.”
- Step 8: Press the ignition control knob to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Remove the newly programmed remote and press the unlock button twice to verify that it functions correctly.
- Step 10: Repeat Steps 6 through 9 to program additional transmitters, if needed.
If No Recognized Transmitters Are Available: Use this procedure to pair a new remote when no previously programmed remotes are available. This method includes three security delay cycles of approximately 10 minutes each.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is off.
- Step 2: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
- Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display: “Press Start Control to Learn Keys.”
- Step 6: Press the ignition switch.
- Step 7: The DIC will begin a countdown with the message: “Learn Delay Active – Wait XX Minutes.”
- Step 8: When prompted, press the ignition switch again.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 7 and 8 two more times.
- Step 10: After the third delay cycle completes, a chime will sound and the DIC will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” (At this stage, all previously stored remote data will be cleared.)
- Step 11: A second chime will confirm the first remote has been accepted.
- Step 12: The DIC will then advance to: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
- Step 13: For additional remotes, insert each one into the transmitter pocket. A chime will sound after each successful programming.
- Step 14: Once four remotes have been programmed, the DIC will display: “Maximum Number of Electronic Keys Learned,” and exit programming mode.
- Step 15: Press the ignition control knob to close out the session.
- Step 16: Press unlock on each remote to confirm proper operation.
