Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2013 Scion tC Important
Note: These instructions apply to programming the remote (keyless entry) functions of a remote head key. If the key includes a transponder chip, the blade must be cut and electronically programmed by a qualified technician. If the key is a non-transponder type, only the key blade needs to be cut—no programming is required for ignition use. The Smart Key System on this vehicle does not support onboard programming. Programming the smart key itself requires a technician to connect specialized equipment to the vehicle.
Step-by-Step Programming Procedure (Remote Functions Only):
- Step 1: Start with the key removed from the ignition.
- Step 2: Open and unlock the driver’s door. Ensure all other doors, including the trunk, are closed.
- Step 3: Within 5 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and remove it twice.
- Step 4: Close and open the driver’s door two times.
- Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition once more, then remove it again.
- Step 6: Close and open the driver’s door two additional times.
- Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted.
- Step 8: Close the driver’s door.
- Step 9: Turn the ignition ON, then OFF, without starting the engine.
- Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 11: The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to indicate the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 12: On the first remote: Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 1.5 seconds. Release both buttons, then immediately press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds.
- Step 13: The door locks will cycle again to confirm the remote has been successfully programmed. To add more remotes, repeat Step 12 for each one within the same session. If no additional remotes need to be programmed, continue to Step 14.
- Step 14: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. The process is now complete.
