2013 Subaru Impreza Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Step-by-Step Programming Guide:

NOTE: The procedure may seem complex, but it’s straightforward once reviewed. You may repeat the steps as needed without causing issues.

  • Step 1: Identify your key type: Separate Remote: This process fully programs the remote. Remotehead Key: Only the remote portion is programmed. The key blade must be cut and the transponder chip programmed separately to enable engine start.
  • Step 2: Open the remote casing: Use a flathead screwdriver (Separate Remote) or a small Phillips screwdriver (Remotehead Key). Locate and write down the 8-digit ID number found inside. Only use the row with numbers—ignore letters.
  • Step 3: Ensure all vehicle doors and the trunk are completely closed.
  • Step 4: Sit in the driver’s seat and close the door. Proceed to the next step immediately.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition switch from LOCK to ON 10 times within 15 seconds. Do not start the engine. If successful, the vehicle will flash the lights and emit a tone, confirming entry into programming mode.
  • Step 6: Open and then close the driver’s door once. The chime will continue, confirming you are still in programming mode.
  • Step 7: Enter the remote’s 8-digit ID code: Press the LOCK button on the driver’s door panel the number of times that corresponds to the first digit. Press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. Repeat for all eight digits, using LOCK to count and UNLOCK to proceed. After the 8th digit, press UNLOCK once more.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 to re-enter the full 8-digit code. If done correctly, the vehicle will emit a tone for 30 seconds, confirming successful programming.
  • Step 9: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 5–8 for each one. If no more remotes are being added, continue to the next step.
  • Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition. The process is now complete.
