2013 Subaru Tribeca Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notes: This procedure programs remote functions only (lock/unlock). If using a Remotehead Key, the mechanical portion must still be cut and the transponder chip programmed separately for the vehicle to start. The system supports up to four remote codes in memory at any time. The unique 8-digit transmitter code is required and can be found: On a label inside the remote's packaging. Printed directly on the circuit board inside the remote case. Before You Begin: Make sure all doors, rear gate, and trunk lid are closed. Sit in the driver’s seat and close the driver’s door.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 2: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from LOCK to ON (without starting the engine), then back to LOCK 10 times within 15 seconds. If successful, you will hear a single tone, followed by a continuous buzzer, and the interior light will flash. If this does not happen, exit the vehicle and restart from Step 1.
- Step 4: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again. You will now hear a 30-second electronic tone, indicating the vehicle is ready for code input. Entering the Transmitter Code:
- Step 5: While the tone is sounding, use the driver’s side power lock switch to input the 8-digit code: Press LOCK the number of times equal to the first digit. Press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. Repeat this for all 8 digits. After entering all digits, press UNLOCK once more.
- Step 6: Re-enter the entire 8-digit code a second time, exactly as before. If entered correctly, the system will emit another 30-second confirmation tone. Errors at this stage may result from delays longer than 5 seconds between button presses or a mismatched second entry. Error Handling: If the tone does not sound: Restart the procedure from Step 3. If you pause more than 5 seconds between inputs, you must start again. If the second code entry does not match the first, restart from Step 5. After six consecutive errors, restart the entire process from Step 3. Programming Additional Remotes:
- Step 7: To program another remote, repeat Steps 3 through 6 for each one. You may program up to four total remotes. Finalizing Programming:
- Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. This will exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait about 2 minutes, then test each remote to verify correct operation: Press LOCK to ensure doors lock and the alarm sets. Press UNLOCK once to unlock the driver’s door, then again to unlock all doors and the rear gate. Deleting Lost or Old Remotes: If you wish to clear old remote codes (such as lost transmitters), overwrite the memory: Program four total remotes using only those in your possession. 1 remote: program it 4 times 2 remotes: program each one 2 times 3 remotes: program one twice, the others once This ensures only valid remote codes are stored.
