2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

For Models with Standard Key and Remote (Non-Smart Key System)

Step-by-Step Procedure:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Ensure all doors are completely closed.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and keep it open during the entire procedure.
  • Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF and remove it — all within 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: Within the next 20 seconds, close and open the driver’s door three times quickly.
  • Step 6: Reinsert the key, turn it to the ON position, then turn it OFF and remove it — again within 10 seconds.
  • Step 7: The door locks should cycle (lock and unlock), confirming the vehicle has entered remote programming mode.
  • Step 8: Press the UNLOCK button on the remote fob. The locks should cycle again to confirm the remote has been programmed successfully.
  • Step 9: Repeat Step 8 for each additional remote.
  • Step 10: Exit the vehicle, close all doors, and test each remote to ensure all functions are working properly. 2013 Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions For Models Equipped with a Smart Key System Important Notes: You can program up to four remote fobs. Programming a fifth remote will automatically erase all previously stored codes. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Have all remotes with you before beginning the procedure.

Smart Key Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Close all vehicle doors.
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and confirm the driver’s door is unlocked.
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Complete the following actions within 25 seconds:
  • A) Press the power door lock switch on the driver’s door to LOCK, then to UNLOCK.
  • B) Repeat the lock/unlock action two more times (for a total of three cycles).
  • C) Press the lock switch one final time to LOCK.
  • D) Remove the key from the ignition, then reinsert it.
  • E) Repeat the key removal and reinsertion three more times.
  • F) Turn the ignition to the START position and let the engine run for 3 seconds.
  • G) Move to Step 5 within 60 seconds after the engine starts. Note: Failing to complete Steps 4A–F within 25 seconds or Step 5 within 60 seconds will cancel the procedure and require a restart.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the LOCK position. A buzzer will sound twice, and the door locks will automatically cycle from locked to unlocked, indicating that the system is in programming mode.
  • Step 6: Press any button (LOCK, UNLOCK, or PANIC) on the remote. A buzzer will sound twice and the locks will cycle again to confirm the remote has been programmed. Repeat this step for each additional remote within 30 seconds.
  • Step 7: Complete the programming by removing the key from the ignition or turning the ignition to the ON position.
  • Step 8: Test each remote to ensure both keyless entry and keyless start systems function correctly. If a remote does not respond, repeat the programming procedure from the beginning.

Security Reminder:

  • If a remote has been lost, programming a new one will erase all previously stored remotes. To maintain security, always program all remotes you intend to use during the same session. Any remotes not reprogrammed will be deactivated.
