2014 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle is not equipped for onboard programming. A certified technician or authorized dealer must perform key fob programming using specialized diagnostic equipment.

  • Step 1: Determine if you're adding a new smart key or replacing a lost one. Some vehicle systems require that all remotes be reprogrammed at once.
  • Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a qualified technician or dealer who has access to manufacturer-approved diagnostic tools capable of programming BMW smart keys.
  • Step 3: Bring all currently functioning remotes to the appointment. Any fob not present may be erased from the system during programming.
  • Step 4: If your vehicle can still be driven, transporting it to the technician may help reduce costs compared to using mobile services.
  • Step 5: If no remotes are working, ensure you bring proof of ownership—such as your vehicle registration or title—before programming can begin.
  • Step 6: The technician will connect specialized equipment to the vehicle’s onboard system to access the key programming interface securely.
  • Step 7: The new smart key fob will be programmed to communicate with the vehicle’s locking system, ignition, and remote functions.
  • Step 8: After programming is complete, the technician will test the remote to confirm it properly controls locking, unlocking, and engine start.
  • Step 9: You should also test the key fob yourself, ensuring additional features like trunk release, panic button, and keyless entry operate as expected.
  • Step 10: If multiple remotes need programming, repeat the process for each one during the same session, typically within 30 seconds of the last fob.
