Programming Guide for 2014 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS

(Smart Key System Only)

If You Have One Recognized Transmitter: A new remote fob can be programmed if at least one existing transmitter is currently recognized by the vehicle.

Note: For vehicles sold in Canada, two recognized remotes are required to begin this process.

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is turned off and that all remotes to be programmed are present.
  • Step 2: Remove the mechanical key from the recognized remote.
  • Step 3: Place the recognized remote(s) in the front cupholder.
  • Step 4: Remove the cap from the driver’s door key lock cylinder.
  • Step 5: Insert the mechanical key into the cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 6: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready for Remote #2, 3, 4, etc.”
  • Step 7: Open the center console storage compartment and remove the rubber mat to access the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 8: Insert the new remote into the pocket with the buttons facing forward.
  • Step 9: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. Once the new transmitter is accepted, the DIC will indicate readiness for the next remote.
  • Step 10: Remove the newly programmed remote and press either the unlock or lock button to verify that it works.
  • Step 11: Repeat Steps 8 through 10 for any additional transmitters.
  • Step 12: Once all remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 13: Reinsert the mechanical key into its original transmitter casing.

If No Recognized Transmitters Are Available: If no currently programmed remotes are available, follow the procedure below to add up to eight new transmitters. This procedure is not supported on Canadian models and requires three timed delay cycles (approximately 30 minutes total).

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is off.
  • Step 2: Remove the mechanical key from the new transmitter.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Insert the mechanical key and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display: “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  • Step 6: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the DIC reads: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 8: The DIC will again show: “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 two more times.
  • Step 10: After the third cycle, the DIC will display: “Ready for Remote #1.” (At this point, all previously stored remote pairings will be cleared.)
  • Step 11: Open the center console, remove the mat, and place the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
  • Step 12: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will accept the remote and show readiness for the next.
  • Step 13: Remove the programmed remote and press unlock or lock to confirm functionality.
  • Step 14: To program more transmitters, repeat Steps 11 through 13 for each one.
  • Step 15: When programming is complete, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for about 12 seconds to exit the mode.
  • Step 16: Return the mechanical key to its transmitter casing.
