Programming a Remote Head Key for 2014 Lincoln MKZ

Important: This guide explains spare Intelligent Access key for a 2014 model equipped with push-button start. You must have two valid, programmed keys to complete the process. Manual programming cannot be performed with only one working key. Ensure the vehicle is off and all doors are closed before beginning. Complete all steps in order, observing the required timing. If any step is missed or not completed in time, wait 10 seconds before starting again. Read through the entire procedure before beginning.

Intelligent Access Key Programming Steps:

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is off and all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Remove the rubber mat from the center cupholder to reveal the backup key slot.
  • Step 3: Insert the first programmed Intelligent Access key into the slot with the buttons facing downward.
  • Step 4: Press the START/STOP button once (do not press the brake pedal).
  • Step 5: Wait 5 seconds.
  • Step 6: Press the START/STOP button again to turn the system off.
  • Step 7: Remove the first key from the slot.
  • Step 8: Within 10 seconds, insert the second programmed key into the same slot.
  • Step 9: Press the START/STOP button once.
  • Step 10: Wait 5 seconds.
  • Step 11: Press the START/STOP button again to shut the system off.
  • Step 12: Remove the second key from the slot.
  • Step 13: Wait 5 seconds, then insert the new, unprogrammed key into the backup slot.
  • Step 14: Press the START/STOP button once. If successful, the system will automatically program the key.
  • Step 15: Remove the newly programmed key.
  • Step 16: Test the key by using the lock/unlock buttons and starting the vehicle to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 17: If the key does not function, wait 10 seconds, then repeat steps 1 through 16.
