2014 Mitsubishi Outlander – Keyless Entry Remote & Smart Key Programming Guide
Standard Key or Remote Head Key – Immobilizer (Start Function) Programming
Note: This procedure is not valid for Canadian models. To register a new key, you must have two currently programmed keys. This process only programs the ignition/start function. If the key includes remote lock/unlock buttons, they must be programmed separately.
- Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition. Turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF and remove the key.
- Step 2: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the ON position.
- Step 3: After approximately 10 seconds, the immobilizer indicator will begin to blink.
- Step 4: Turn the second key to the OFF position and remove it once the indicator starts blinking.
- Step 5: Within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. If the immobilizer light stays on solid for 3 seconds and then turns off, programming is complete. If it turns off early or fails to blink, restart from Step 1.
- Step 6: Test the new key to confirm it starts the engine.
- Step 7: Repeat for any additional keys you wish to add. Remote Head Key – Remote Button Programming (Lock/Unlock Functions) This section is used to program the remote control buttons.
You must have one functioning remote to begin the process.
- Step 1: Gather all remotes (working and new). Only remotes programmed during this session will continue to function.
- Step 2: With a programmed remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, release the LOCK button first, then the UNLOCK button. The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm entry into programming mode.
- Step 4: Within 60 seconds, program each additional remote as follows: Press and hold both LOCK and UNLOCK for 2 seconds Release both buttons for 1 second Press and release UNLOCK
- Step 5: If successful, the doors will lock and unlock again.
- Step 6: Repeat Step 4 for each additional remote. If no remotes are registered within 60 seconds, the system will automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 7: Test all remotes to confirm proper operation. Smart Key System – Programming Both Engine Start and Remote Functions For vehicles equipped with a Smart Key system. Two programmed Smart Keys are required to add another. This process programs the key to start the vehicle and operate the remote buttons.
Smart Key Programming Procedure
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the procedure. Do not operate any other doors.
- Step 2: Carry the first programmed Smart Key and turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. Begin the next step within 30 seconds.
- Step 3: Insert the new Smart Key into the designated key slot in the illustrated direction.
- Step 4: Using the first Smart Key, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of pressing LOCK, release the LOCK, then UNLOCK button in order.
- Step 6: With the second programmed Smart Key, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK.
- Step 7: Release LOCK, then UNLOCK, in sequence. The immobilizer indicator on the multi-information display will begin blinking. When programming is complete, the buzzer will sound 3 times, and the immobilizer light will stay on for 30 seconds. If an error occurs, the buzzer will sound continuously for 3 seconds and the process will be terminated.
- Step 8: To program another Smart Key, turn the ignition OFF, remove the newly added Smart Key, and repeat from Step 1.
