2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport – Keyless Entry Remote Fob & Smart Key Programming Instructions
A. Remote Head Key System Important Notice: This procedure only works if you have two already programmed remote head keys. If you have fewer than two working keys, onboard programming cannot be completed.
Programming the Ignition Key Function:
- Step 1: Insert the first working key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position (do not start the engine). Leave it in this position for approximately 5 seconds.
- Step 2: Turn the ignition back to the “LOCK” position and remove the first key.
- Step 3: Within 30 seconds, insert the second working key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position.
- Step 4: Wait approximately 10 seconds until the immobilizer indicator on the dashboard begins to blink.
- Step 5: Once the light starts blinking, turn the ignition to “LOCK” and remove the second key.
- Step 6: Within 30 seconds, insert the new, unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position. This must be done before the immobilizer light stops blinking.
- Step 7: If successful, the immobilizer light will turn on for 3 seconds and then go off. If the light turns off early or does not illuminate, the process did not complete successfully.
- Step 8: To program additional keys, repeat Steps 1 through 7. Programming the Remote Button Functions:
Note: This process programs the remote functions (lock/unlock) of the remote head key. You must have at least one working remote to begin.
- Step 1: Gather all remotes (current and new) that you want to program.
- Step 2: Using a programmed remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
- Step 3: While still holding UNLOCK, press and hold the LOCK button.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds, release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in sequence. The doors will lock and unlock once to confirm entry into programming mode. All remotes except the one used in this step will be erased from memory.
- Step 5: Within 60 seconds, program additional remotes by doing the following for each: Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK simultaneously for 2 seconds. Release both buttons for 1 second. Press and release the UNLOCK button.
- Step 6: The doors will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm successful programming.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 5 for each additional remote within the 60-second window.
- Step 8: If no remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the vehicle will automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Test each remote to ensure all functions work as expected.
B. Smart Key System Important Notice: This programming method requires two already programmed Smart Keys. Without both, onboard programming is not possible.
Smart Key Programming Steps:
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the entire process. Do not open or close any other doors during programming.
- Step 2: Carry the first programmed Smart Key with you and turn the ignition to the “ON” position (without starting the engine). Begin the next steps within 30 seconds.
- Step 3: Insert the new, unprogrammed Smart Key into the key slot, making sure it’s aligned and inserted in the proper direction.
- Step 4: With the first Smart Key, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button while still holding UNLOCK.
- Step 5: Release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in sequence within 10 seconds of pressing the LOCK button.
- Step 6: With the second Smart Key, repeat the same sequence: press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK, and release both buttons in order within 10 seconds.
- Step 7: The immobilizer indicator in the multi-information display will begin blinking. When the new Smart Key is successfully programmed, a buzzer will sound three times and the immobilizer icon will remain on for 30 seconds.
- Step 8: If an error occurs, the buzzer will sound for 3 seconds and the programming process will cancel automatically.
- Step 9: To program additional Smart Keys, turn off the ignition, remove the newly added key from the slot, and repeat the procedure starting from Step 1.
