2014 Subaru Tribeca Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2014 Subaru Tribeca uses a Smart Key system that does not support onboard programming. This means that remote fobs cannot be programmed using a manual key-turn or sequence inside the vehicle. Specialized diagnostic tools and secure access credentials are required.

Programming Procedure (Professional Equipment Required)

  • Step 1: Verify that the vehicle is equipped with a Smart Key system and ensure the remote is compatible with the vehicle’s year and model.
  • Step 2: Ensure the vehicle is stationary, with all doors closed and the ignition in the OFF position.
  • Step 3: Have your new Smart Key remote fob available, along with any existing programmed fobs you wish to keep active.
  • Step 4: Contact a qualified automotive professional with Subaru-compatible diagnostic equipment. This may include: A Subaru dealership A certified technician with Subaru Select Monitor (SSM) An automotive specialist with access to secure remote key programming tools Onboard programming is not possible without authorized tools.
  • Step 5: Provide the technician with: The vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) Any working smart keys, if applicable The new unprogrammed smart key fob
  • Step 6: The technician will connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s OBD-II port and initiate the key registration process using manufacturer protocols.
  • Step 7: All existing keys may be erased and reprogrammed during this process. Make sure all keys you wish to retain are present at the time of programming.
