2014 Toyota Prius Plug-In Smart Key Programming Instructions Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Step-by-Step Guide Important Notice:
The 2014 Prius Plug-In is equipped with a Smart Key System that does not support onboard programming. All key fob programming must be performed using a compatible diagnostic tool capable of interfacing with the vehicle's immobilizer and smart entry systems.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Park the vehicle in a secure location and ensure all doors are fully closed. Remove any existing smart keys from the vehicle’s proximity to prevent signal interference.
- Step 2: Connect a Toyota-compatible scan tool or smart key programming device to the OBD-II diagnostic port, located beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side.
- Step 3: Power on the programming device and select the option to access the Smart Key / Immobilizer system. Choose the function for adding a new smart key or registering a replacement.
- Step 4: If you have an existing functional key, place it near the START/STOP button as prompted by the scan tool. The vehicle will verify the key and allow access to the registration process.
- Step 5: Follow the on-screen prompts to register the new smart key. If no working key is available, the system may require a reset or initialization before continuing.
- Step 6: Place the new smart key against the START/STOP button or insert it into the backup slot if instructed. The vehicle will detect the new key and begin the pairing sequence.
- Step 7: Wait for confirmation from the diagnostic tool that the smart key has been successfully added. The vehicle may emit a chime or flash the hazard lights to indicate success.
- Step 8: Disconnect the programming device from the vehicle and allow the system to reset. This may take 30–60 seconds before the system fully reinitializes.
- Step 9: Test the newly programmed smart key to ensure all functions are operational: Lock and unlock doors remotely Start the engine using push-button ignition Activate proximity entry features
Additional Information:
- The 2014 Prius Plug-In can store up to five smart keys in the system. If all keys are lost, the vehicle may require an immobilizer reset before accepting a new fob. The smart key includes a mechanical backup key that can be used to unlock the driver’s door if the battery is depleted. For security, always store spare keys in a safe location separate from the vehicle.
