Programming Guide for 2015 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS

(Smart Key System Only)

Important Information Before You Begin: All existing and new transmitters must be present during programming. The vehicle must be turned off before initiating either procedure. In Canada, programming a new transmitter requires two recognized remotes. This process applies to vehicles equipped with a Smart Key system only. A maximum of eight transmitters can be programmed.

Programming With a Recognized Transmitter: If you have at least one functioning remote, use this method to add a new one.

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and both the recognized and new transmitters are nearby.
  • Step 2: Remove the mechanical key from the working transmitter.
  • Step 3: Place the recognized transmitter in the front cupholder.
  • Step 4: Remove the cap covering the key lock on the driver’s door handle.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 6: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready for Remote #2, 3, 4, etc.”
  • Step 7: Open the center console and remove the rubber mat to access the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 8: Insert the new transmitter into the pocket with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle.
  • Step 9: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When accepted, the DIC will confirm readiness for the next transmitter.
  • Step 10: Remove the new transmitter and press the unlock or lock button to verify functionality.
  • Step 11: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 8–10 for each one.
  • Step 12: Once all transmitters are added, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for about 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 13: Reinsert the mechanical key into its original transmitter.

Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: If no previously programmed remote is available, follow this longer method to pair up to eight new transmitters.

Important Notes: This process includes three timed delay cycles of approximately 10 minutes each. Not supported for vehicles sold in Canada. All transmitters to be programmed must be with you during the procedure.

  • Step 1: Confirm the vehicle is off.
  • Step 2: Remove the mechanical key from the new transmitter.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the key lock on the driver’s door handle.
  • Step 4: Insert the key and turn to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display: “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  • Step 6: Wait 10 minutes. The DIC will update with: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will again display: “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  • Step 8: Repeat Steps 6 and 7 two more times (three 10-minute cycles total).
  • Step 9: After the final cycle, the DIC will display: “Ready for Remote #1.” (At this stage, all previously paired transmitters have been erased.)
  • Step 10: Open the center console, remove the rubber mat, and insert the new transmitter into the pocket (buttons facing forward).
  • Step 11: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. A confirmation will appear on the DIC.
  • Step 12: Remove the transmitter and press unlock or lock to verify pairing.
  • Step 13: Repeat Steps 10–12 for each additional remote, up to a maximum of eight.
  • Step 14: When finished, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 15: Reinsert the mechanical key into the transmitter body.
