Programming a Smart Key Remote for 2015 Lincoln MKX
Important: This process allows you to program a spare smart key using onboard procedures. To perform this successfully, two previously programmed smart keys must be present inside the vehicle. The system supports up to four programmed smart keys. Ensure the ignition is off before starting. Keep all doors closed throughout the entire process. Complete each step within 30 seconds of beginning the sequence. If a step is missed or performed out of order, wait at least one minute before starting again. Carefully read all steps before you begin.
Smart Key Programming Steps:
- Step 1: Confirm that the vehicle is turned off and that all doors are fully closed.
- Step 2: Place both existing programmed smart keys inside the vehicle.
- Step 3: Insert the new, unprogrammed smart key into the key slot inside the center console. The buttons should be facing downward.
- Step 4: Press the unlock button on the driver or front passenger door three times.
- Step 5: Press and release the brake pedal once.
- Step 6: Press the lock button on the same door panel three times.
- Step 7: Press and release the brake pedal again. The indicator on the Start/Stop button should begin flashing rapidly. This confirms that the vehicle has entered programming mode and both programmed keys have been detected.
- Step 8: Within one minute, press the Start/Stop button once. If the system has already stored four keys, a message such as “Maximum Number of Keys Learned” will appear on the instrument panel.
- Step 9: Remove the newly added key from the center console slot.
- Step 10: Press the unlock button on the new smart key. This exits programming mode and finalizes the process.
- Step 11: Test the new smart key: Press lock, then unlock to ensure remote entry functions are working. Start the vehicle using the new key to confirm successful programming.
