2015 Mitsubishi Outlander – Remote Fob & Smart Key Programming Guide
Standard Key / Remote Head Key – Immobilizer (Engine Start) Programming
Note: This method is not supported on vehicles sold in Canada. You must have two already programmed keys to register a third. This process only programs the ignition/start function. Remote buttons on Remote Head Keys are programmed separately.
- Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition. Turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds, then turn it to LOCK and remove it.
- Step 2: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the ON position.
- Step 3: After about 10 seconds, the immobilizer warning light will begin to blink.
- Step 4: Once the light starts blinking, turn the key to LOCK and remove it.
- Step 5: Within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key, turn it to the ON position, and wait. If the immobilizer light turns on for 3 seconds and then turns off, programming is successful. If the light goes off early or behaves abnormally, restart the procedure.
- Step 6: Test the new key to confirm it starts the engine.
- Step 7: Repeat from Step 1 for any additional keys. Remote Head Key – Remote Lock/Unlock Button Programming This procedure programs the button functions of a Remote Head Key.
One working remote is required to begin.
- Step 1: Prepare all remotes to be programmed. Any remotes not programmed during this session will no longer function.
- Step 2: On a working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, release the LOCK button first, then the UNLOCK button. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors to confirm programming mode is active.
- Step 4: Within 60 seconds, for each remote to be programmed: Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK simultaneously for 2 seconds Release both for 1 second Press and release UNLOCK
- Step 5: The doors will cycle to confirm each remote was programmed successfully.
- Step 6: Repeat Step 4 for each additional remote. The vehicle will exit programming mode if no new remotes are added within 60 seconds.
- Step 7: Test all programmed remotes to ensure they work properly. Smart Key System – Full Smart Key and Remote Programming This section applies to vehicles with a Smart Key system. To program a new Smart Key, you must have two programmed Smart Keys.
The steps below handle both engine start registration and button function programming. Smart Key Programming Procedure
