2015 Toyota Tundra Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide

Important Notice: The 2015 Toyota Tundra does not support onboard programming for smart key or remote head key fobs. Programming must be completed using manufacturer-grade diagnostic equipment by a qualified automotive technician. There is no manual or at-home procedure for this process.

Programming Overview

  • Step 1: Determine Key Type Your Tundra may use one of the following factory key systems: Remote Head Key – A traditional ignition key with built-in lock/unlock buttons. Smart Key Fob – A proximity-based key used with a push-button start system. Regardless of the type, both require secure electronic registration through the vehicle's onboard computer system.
  • Step 2: Professional Programming Required To program a new fob: A technician must connect a scan tool to the vehicle’s OBD-II port. The diagnostic interface will communicate with the Body Control Module (BCM) and the immobilizer ECU to register the new key. Once programmed, the new fob will control the door locks and start functions (if applicable).
  • Step 3: Preparing for Your Appointment Before visiting a technician for programming: Bring all existing remotes that should remain active. During programming, older remotes may be removed and must be re-added during the same session. Carry vehicle ownership documentation, such as the registration or title, especially if all remotes have been lost. Check the battery status in any new remotes. A weak battery can prevent the fob from pairing correctly with the vehicle.

Additional Information Remote Capacity:

  • The system typically supports up to four remote fobs at once. Adding a new one beyond this limit may require deleting an old fob. All Keys Lost? If no functioning keys remain, a security reset or additional steps may be necessary to reprogram a new key. Factory System Only: These instructions are intended for the original Toyota keyless entry system. Aftermarket systems will follow different programming requirements. Test Functionality: After programming, confirm that all fob functions—lock, unlock, panic alarm, and push-button start (if equipped)—are working correctly.
