2016 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob and Ignition Key – LaCrosse

Overview: The 2016 Buick LaCrosse may be equipped with either a traditional ignition key or a smart key (Keyless Access) system. Programming procedures differ depending on whether a functional key or transmitter is available.

Section 1: Traditional Ignition Key Programming (Key Vehicles Only)

A. Programming with a Recognized Key:

  • Step 1: Insert the existing programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
  • Step 2: Turn the ignition back to OFF and remove the key.
  • Step 3: Within five seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
  • Step 4: Wait for the security light to turn off, indicating the new key has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 5: Repeat Steps 1–4 for any additional keys.

B. Programming Without a Recognized Key: This process requires approximately 30 minutes and must be followed if no previously programmed key is available.

  • Step 1: Insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position. The security light will illuminate.
  • Step 2: Wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off.
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition to OFF.
  • Step 4: Repeat Steps 1–3 two more times (three 10-minute cycles total).
  • Step 5: After the third cycle, turn the key to ON/RUN to complete programming.
  • Step 6: To program additional keys, follow the procedure in Section 1A.

Section 2: Smart Key Programming (Keyless Access Vehicles Only)

A. Programming with One Recognized Transmitter:

  • Step 1: Place the currently recognized transmitter in the front cupholder.
  • Step 2: Insert the emergency key from the new transmitter into the driver’s door lock, and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 3: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “Ready For Remote #2, 3, 4 or 5.”
  • Step 4: Place the new transmitter in the transmitter pocket, located inside the armrest storage area.
  • Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will confirm that the transmitter is programmed.
  • Step 6: Remove the remote and press the Unlock button.
  • Step 7: Repeat Steps 4–6 for any additional remotes.
  • Step 8: When finished, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

B. Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if no previously programmed transmitters are available. The process will take approximately 30 minutes and can program up to eight transmitters.

  • Step 1: Insert the emergency key from the new transmitter into the driver’s door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 2: The DIC will display “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  • Step 3: Wait 10 minutes until the display reads “Press Engine Start Button to Learn,” then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 4: The DIC will display “Remote Learn Pending” again.
  • Step 5: Repeat Step 3 two more times (three 10-minute cycles total).
  • Step 6: After the third cycle, the DIC will show “Ready For Remote #1.”
  • Step 7: Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket inside the armrest storage area.
  • Step 8: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button to confirm programming.
  • Step 9: Remove the transmitter and press the Unlock button.
  • Step 10: Repeat Steps 7–9 for each additional transmitter.
  • Step 11: Press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode when complete.
