Programming Guide for 2016 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: This vehicle supports both flip key and smart key systems. If no recognized key or transmitter is available, programming may require professional equipment. The procedures below outline how to program keys and remotes depending on your starting situation.
Programming a Flip Key – With One Recognized Key Available:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Insert the current, programmed key into the ignition.
- Step 3: Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position and pause briefly.
- Step 4: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
- Step 5: Within five seconds, insert the new key you wish to program.
- Step 6: Turn it to the ON/RUN position.
- Step 7: Wait for the security indicator to turn off. This confirms the new key has been programmed.
- Step 8: Remove the key and test it by starting the vehicle.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 2 through 8 to program any additional flip keys.
Programming a Flip Key – Without a Recognized Key: (Key-based ignition systems only – approx. 30-minute procedure)
- Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is off and that you have all new keys ready.
- Step 2: Insert one of the new keys into the ignition.
- Step 3: Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position. The security light will turn on.
- Step 4: Wait for about 10 minutes until the light turns off.
- Step 5: Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Step 6: Repeat Steps 3 through 5 two more times.
- Step 7: After the third cycle, turn the ignition to ON/RUN again. The key is now learned.
- Step 8: Any previously stored keys will be removed from memory.
- Step 9: To program additional keys, follow the steps in the “With One Recognized Key” section above.
Programming a Smart Key – With One Recognized Remote Available: (Keyless access models with push-button start)
- Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is off and have both the working and new remotes nearby.
- Step 2: Remove the emergency key from the new remote.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the driver’s door lock and turn to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 4: The display will read: “Ready for Remote #2, 3, 4 or 5.”
- Step 5: Access the transmitter pocket by removing the cupholder liner in the center console.
- Step 6: Place the new remote into the pocket with the buttons facing up.
- Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will register the remote.
- Step 8: Remove the remote and press the unlock button.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for each additional remote.
- Step 10: Once complete, press and hold the ignition button for at least 10 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 11: Confirm that all remotes function properly.
Programming a Smart Key – Without a Recognized Remote: (Keyless access systems – approx. 30-minute process)
- Step 1: Remove the emergency key from the new remote.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the driver’s door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 3: The dashboard display will read: “Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.”
- Step 4: Wait for approximately 10 minutes until prompted with: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
- Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The display will return to the pending message.
- Step 6: Repeat Step 5 two more times, waiting for the prompt each time.
- Step 7: After the third cycle, the message “Ready for Remote #1” will appear.
- Step 8: Access the transmitter pocket inside the center console by removing the cupholder liner.
- Step 9: Place the new smart key in the pocket with the buttons facing up.
- Step 10: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button to program the remote.
- Step 11: Once accepted, the display will prompt for the next remote.
- Step 12: Remove the remote and press the unlock button to confirm pairing.
- Step 13: Repeat Steps 9 through 12 for each additional remote.
- Step 14: Press and hold the ignition button for at least 10 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 15: Test each remote to ensure it can lock/unlock the doors and start the vehicle.
