Programming Guide for 2016 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle allows keyless entry remote programming either with an existing recognized transmitter or by initiating a full programming sequence when no remotes are available. All transmitters to be programmed must be on hand before starting.

Programming a Remote – With One Recognized Transmitter Available:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely off. Gather both the recognized and new transmitters.
  • Step 2: Remove the emergency key from the working transmitter.
  • Step 3: Place the recognized transmitter into the front cupholder.
  • Step 4: Remove the cap covering the driver’s door key cylinder.
  • Step 5: Insert the emergency key into the driver’s door lock and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 6: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, 4, etc.”
  • Step 7: Open the center console and remove the liner to access the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 8: Insert the new transmitter into the pocket with the buttons facing upward.
  • Step 9: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The system will recognize and program the new remote.
  • Step 10: Remove the remote from the pocket and press the lock or unlock button to confirm pairing.
  • Step 11: Repeat Steps 8 through 10 for each additional remote.
  • Step 12: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to complete the process.
  • Step 13: Reinsert the emergency key into each remote after programming.

Programming a Remote – Without a Recognized Transmitter Available: (Approximate time: 30 minutes)

  • Step 1: Confirm the vehicle is off. Have all new transmitters available before beginning.
  • Step 2: Remove the emergency key from one of the new remotes.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Insert the emergency key and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.”
  • Step 6: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the message changes to: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The message will return to the pending prompt.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 two additional times. After the third cycle, previously programmed remotes will be erased.
  • Step 9: The DIC will then display: “Ready for Remote #1.”
  • Step 10: Open the center console, remove the cupholder liner, and locate the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 11: Place the first remote into the pocket with the buttons facing up.
  • Step 12: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will confirm registration.
  • Step 13: Remove the remote and press lock or unlock to confirm it has been accepted.
  • Step 14: Repeat Steps 11 through 13 for each additional remote.
  • Step 15: When all transmitters have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 16: Reinsert the emergency key into each remote after setup is complete.
