Programming Guide for 2016 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – ATS-V

Important Notice: This vehicle offers two programming methods depending on whether a functional remote is available. When a recognized transmitter is present, the process is quick. If no remotes are programmed, the system requires a timed initialization period to reset and accept new fobs.

Adding a Remote – When One Recognized Transmitter Is Available:

  • Step 1: Power off the vehicle and gather all transmitters you plan to register.
  • Step 2: Take the mechanical key out of the currently programmed remote.
  • Step 3: Place the working remote in the front cupholder for the system to detect.
  • Step 4: Remove the cap covering the lock on the exterior driver’s door handle.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the exposed lock and rotate it counterclockwise five times within 10 seconds.
  • Step 6: The DIC will show: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key.”
  • Step 7: Open the center console and locate the transmitter slot by removing the cupholder liner.
  • Step 8: Insert the new remote into this pocket with the buttons facing up.
  • Step 9: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The remote will be accepted by the system.
  • Step 10: Remove the transmitter and press either unlock or lock to finalize programming.
  • Step 11: To register more fobs, repeat the process starting from Step 8.
  • Step 12: Once done, hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 13: Reinsert the emergency key into the fob.

Adding a Remote – When No Transmitters Are Recognized: (Allows up to 8 remotes. Requires approximately 30 minutes.)

  • Step 1: Turn the ignition off and keep all new transmitters within the cabin.
  • Step 2: Take the emergency key out of one of the new fobs.
  • Step 3: Remove the cover from the door handle to access the lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Insert the key and rotate it to the unlock position five times rapidly.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display: “Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.”
  • Step 6: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the message changes to: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The message will return to the pending prompt.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 two more times. This completes a 30-minute cycle and clears old remotes.
  • Step 9: Once complete, the display will read: “Ready for Remote #1.”
  • Step 10: Open the center console and remove the insert to access the transmitter slot.
  • Step 11: Insert the first new remote into the slot with the button side up.
  • Step 12: Press the start button to program the remote.
  • Step 13: Remove the transmitter and press the unlock or lock button to confirm.
  • Step 14: Repeat the process for any remaining transmitters.
  • Step 15: After all remotes are programmed, press and hold the start button for 12 seconds to exit.
  • Step 16: Reinsert the mechanical key into each remote once programming is complete.
