Programming Guide for 2016 Remote Keyless Entry Fob (Smart Key System)
Important Notice: The 2016 model supports remote fob programming through a specific onboard procedure. The method varies depending on whether you have a recognized transmitter. Up to eight remote fobs can be programmed to the vehicle. Ensure you have all fobs present before starting.
Programming With a Recognized Remote: A new remote can be added when at least one functioning remote is available. All remotes to be programmed must be inside the vehicle.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Place the currently recognized remote(s) in the cupholder.
- Step 3: Using the key from the new remote, insert it into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within ten seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, 4, etc.
- Step 5: Open the center console storage compartment and remove the tray to access the transmitter pocket.
- Step 6: Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
- Step 7: Press the ignition button once. When successful, the DIC will confirm the remote has been programmed.
- Step 8: Remove the remote from the pocket and press either the Lock or Unlock button to confirm operation.
- Step 9: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 5 through 8 for each one.
- Step 10: When all remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ignition button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
Programming Without a Recognized Remote: If no working remotes are available, use the following method. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and all remotes are inside the cabin.
- Step 2: Insert the mechanical key into the door lock cylinder on the driver’s side and turn it to the unlock position five times within ten seconds. The DIC will display: Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.
- Step 3: Wait approximately ten minutes. When prompted by the DIC to Press Engine Start Button to Learn, press the ignition.
- Step 4: The system will again display Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait. Repeat Step 3 two more times. After the third cycle, previously stored remotes will be erased.
- Step 5: Once Ready for Remote #1 appears, open the center console and access the transmitter pocket.
- Step 6: Place the new remote inside the pocket, buttons facing forward.
- Step 7: Press the ignition button. The DIC will indicate the remote has been learned.
- Step 8: Remove the remote from the pocket and press the Unlock or Lock button to verify operation.
- Step 9: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 8.
