<h1>2016 GMC Terrain — Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming (Flip Key and Smart Key)</h1> This model supports self-programming of additional keys under specific conditions. Carefully follow the instructions below based on your situation. If All Keys Are Lost (Flip Key Models) If no working keys are available, you can still program a new key by completing a timed procedure. This will take about 30 minutes and should only be done when you have all keys you wish to program. <ul> <li>Step 1: Insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position. The security light will turn on. </li> <li>Step 2: Leave the key in the ON/RUN position for 10 minutes until the security light turns off. </li> <li>Step 3: Turn the key to the OFF position for a few seconds. </li> <li>Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 two more times. On the third cycle, after the security light goes off, turn the key to the ON/RUN position once more. </li> <li>Step 5: The new key is now learned, and any previously programmed keys will no longer function. </li> <li>Step 6: Use the method below to program additional keys if needed. </li> </ul> If You Have One Working Flip Key and Want to Add Another When at least one programmed key is available, additional keys can be programmed using the following steps: <ul> <li>Step 1: Insert the working key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position until all dashboard lights are on. </li> <li>Step 2: Turn the key to OFF and remove it. </li> <li>Step 3: Within five seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON/RUN position. </li> <li>Step 4: Wait until the security light turns off. This confirms the new key has been accepted. </li> <li>Step 5: Repeat this process for each new key you wish to program. </li> </ul> If You Have a Recognized Smart Transmitter (Smart Key Models Only) If your vehicle is equipped with a smart key system, you can use the steps below to add an additional transmitter: <ul> <li>Step 1: Place a recognized smart key inside the vehicle. </li> <li>Step 2: Insert the new transmitter into the key pocket or hold it near the transmitter detection zone. </li> <li>Step 3: Follow prompts in the vehicle’s Driver Information Center or use the ignition button as instructed. </li> <li>Step 4: When the process is complete, test the new transmitter to confirm programming was successful. </li> </ul> Note: There is a limit to the number of remotes that can be programmed to the vehicle. Be sure to test each one after programming.
