2017 BMW 2 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2017 BMW 2 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming must be carried out using specialized diagnostic equipment by a qualified automotive technician or authorized dealer.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Confirm that the replacement smart key remote fob is fully compatible with the 2017 BMW 2 Series. An incorrect part or frequency may prevent successful pairing with the vehicle.
  • Step 2: Schedule service with a certified automotive technician or BMW dealership that has the proper diagnostic tools required for smart key programming.
  • Step 3: Ask whether all existing remote fobs must be reprogrammed during the session. Some vehicle systems will automatically remove any remotes not present during the process.
  • Step 4: If your vehicle is operable, consider taking it to the service location to help reduce overall costs, as mobile programming services may include additional fees.
  • Step 5: At the service facility, the technician will connect diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s OBD-II port to access and initiate the programming system.
  • Step 6: The technician will follow a secure pairing procedure to register the new smart key with the vehicle’s entry, ignition, and security systems.
  • Step 7: Once programming is completed, each remote will be tested to confirm full functionality, including locking, unlocking, trunk release, and push-button start (if equipped).
  • Step 8: Store all programmed remotes in a safe location and verify that each one works properly before concluding the session.
