2017 BMW 3 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2017 BMW 3 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming requires the use of specialized diagnostic tools and must be performed by a certified automotive technician or authorized dealer.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm that the replacement smart key fob is specifically compatible with the 2017 BMW 3 Series. An incorrect fob may not function properly or pair with the vehicle’s system.
- Step 2: Contact a certified technician or authorized BMW dealer who has the appropriate diagnostic equipment and software to complete the smart key programming process.
- Step 3: Ask whether all currently programmed remotes need to be present. In many cases, any remotes not included during the session may be erased from the vehicle's memory.
- Step 4: If your vehicle is drivable, consider bringing it directly to the service provider’s location to potentially lower service costs associated with mobile programming.
- Step 5: At the service center, the technician will connect a diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port (OBD-II) to access the programming system.
- Step 6: The technician will then carry out a secure process to pair the new smart key remote fob with your vehicle’s locking, ignition, and security systems.
- Step 7: After programming is complete, each key fob will be tested to verify full functionality, including locking, unlocking, trunk release, and push-button start (if equipped).
- Step 8: Confirm that all programmed remotes are working correctly and store them securely before ending the session.
