Programming Guide for 2017 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac Escalade

Important Notice: The 2017 Escalade supports onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. The procedure varies depending on whether at least two recognized transmitters are available. You may program up to eight total fobs. Use the appropriate method below.

Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters: Use this method if you have at least two working transmitters.

  • Step 1: Remove Mechanical Key Take the physical key out of one recognized transmitter.
  • Step 2: Position the Recognized Transmitters Place both recognized transmitters inside the vehicle, either in the cup holder or on the passenger seat.
  • Step 3: Enter Programming Mode Remove the cap from the driver door key lock cylinder. Insert the key and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5
  • Step 4: Insert the New Transmitter Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket, located inside the center console storage compartment.
  • Step 5: Program the Transmitter Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the fob is successfully programmed, the DIC will prompt you to continue with the next remote.
  • Step 6: Confirm the Programming Remove the newly programmed transmitter from the pocket and press the UNLOCK button.
  • Step 7: Repeat for Additional Remotes Repeat Steps 3–6 for each additional transmitter you want to program.
  • Step 8: Exit Programming Mode Press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to complete the session.

Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method only if no working transmitters are available. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.

Note: This feature is not available in Canada.

  • Step 1: Begin Initialization Remove the key from one new transmitter and remove the driver door key cylinder cap. Insert the key into the driver’s door and turn it counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC will display: REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT
  • Step 2: Wait for System Prompt After approximately 10 minutes, the DIC will display: PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will return to: REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT
  • Step 3: Repeat Timed Entry Two More Times Repeat Step 2 two additional times (for a total of three cycles). After the third confirmation, all previous transmitters will be erased. The DIC will then display: READY FOR REMOTE #1
  • Step 4: Insert the New Transmitter Place the new fob into the transmitter pocket in the center console.
  • Step 5: Program the Transmitter Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will confirm once the remote is programmed.
  • Step 6: Confirm and Continue Remove the remote from the pocket and press UNLOCK to confirm. Repeat Steps 4–6 for each additional transmitter.
  • Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 8: Return the Key Reinsert the mechanical key into the fob housing.

Additional Considerations:

Reprogram All Remotes Together: Any remotes not included in the session will be deleted from memory.

Battery Check: Ensure each fob has a working battery before beginning.

System Capacity: The vehicle supports programming of up to eight transmitters.

Time Estimate: With two recognized transmitters, the process takes only a few minutes. Without any, allow about 30 minutes.

Spare Fobs: Consider programming a backup fob during the same session for convenience.
