Programming Guide for 2017 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This model supports onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. You can add new remotes using two currently recognized fobs or follow a timed programming sequence if none are available. Review and follow the instructions based on your situation.

Programming with Two Recognized Remote Fobs: If you have two functioning remote fobs, follow the steps below to add a new one:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely off and all doors are securely closed.
  • Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs inside the front cupholder.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the key lock cylinder on the driver’s door handle to expose the mechanical key slot.
  • Step 4: Insert the mechanical key from one of the fobs into the door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. This activates programming mode. The dashboard display will show READY FOR REMOTE #2 or a similar message.
  • Step 5: Open the center console storage area between the front seats. Lift the storage tray to reveal the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 6: Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket inside the console.
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once (do not hold). The system will recognize the new fob and indicate readiness to program additional remotes.
  • Step 8: Remove the newly programmed remote and press either the Lock or Unlock button to confirm functionality.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for each additional remote you wish to program.
  • Step 10: After all desired remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the mechanical key into its original position inside the remote.
  • Step 12: Reattach the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Programming Without Recognized Remote Fobs: If no working remotes are available, follow these steps to program new ones. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • Step 1: Verify the vehicle is turned off and all doors are closed.
  • Step 2: Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle to reveal the lock.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The display will read REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
  • Step 4: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the display reads PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button once.
  • Step 5: The screen will return to the waiting message. Repeat Step 4 two more times, for a total of three 10-minute cycles.
  • Step 6: After the third cycle, all previously recognized remotes will be erased. The display will show READY FOR REMOTE #1.
  • Step 7: Open the center console between the front seats, lift the storage tray, and place the first new remote into the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 8: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The system will detect and learn the remote.
  • Step 9: Remove the remote from the transmitter pocket and press the Lock or Unlock button to verify successful programming.
  • Step 10: Repeat Steps 7 through 9 for each additional remote you wish to add.
  • Step 11: When programming is complete, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Return the mechanical key to the remote fob.
  • Step 13: Reinstall the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Capacity: Up to eight remote fobs can be paired with the vehicle.

Timing is Crucial: All actions must be completed within the specified time windows for successful programming.

Proof of Ownership: If no remotes are available and external assistance is needed, documentation proving vehicle ownership may be required by a professional technician.
