2017 Mitsubishi Outlander – Remote Fob & Smart Key Programming Instructions
Standard Ignition Key or Remote Head Key – Engine Start Programming For vehicles not sold in Canada. This method registers a new key to start the vehicle. Requires access to two previously recognized keys already accepted by the system.
- Step 1: Insert an existing key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds, then turn it OFF and remove it.
- Step 2: Within 30 seconds, insert a second known key and turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Step 3: Wait about 10 seconds until the immobilizer light on the dashboard begins to blink. Step 4: Once the blinking starts, turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
- Step 5: Within 30 seconds, insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. The immobilizer indicator will illuminate for about 3 seconds and then turn off to confirm successful programming. If the indicator behaves differently, restart the procedure from Step 1.
- Step 6: Confirm that the new key starts the engine correctly.
- Step 7: Repeat the process to program any additional keys. Remote Head Key – Lock/Unlock Button Programming This procedure programs the remote control functions of a Remote Head Key.
A working remote is required to activate the process. ]
- Step 1: Have all remotes available for programming. Any remote not programmed during this session will be deactivated.
- Step 2: With a functioning remote, press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK while still holding UNLOCK.
- Step 3: Release LOCK, then UNLOCK, in order, within 10 seconds. The doors will lock and unlock to signal that the vehicle is now in programming mode.
- Step 4: Within 60 seconds, register each remote by doing the following: Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK together for 2 seconds Release both buttons for 1 second Press and release UNLOCK
- Step 5: The locks will cycle once for each successfully programmed remote.
- Step 6: If no remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the system will exit programming mode.
- Step 7: Test each remote for proper lock/unlock function. Smart Key – Keyless Start and Remote Function Programming This process registers a new Smart Key to the system, enabling both push-button start and remote control features. All doors must remain undisturbed except for the driver’s door, which should stay open throughout.
Smart Key Registration Procedure
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open during the entire session. Avoid interacting with other doors.
- Step 2: Carry a known Smart Key and turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. Proceed with the next step within 30 seconds.
- Step 3: Insert the new Smart Key into the key slot, aligning it as shown in the vehicle's guide.
- Step 4: Using the first Smart Key, press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK.
- Step 5: Release LOCK, then UNLOCK, in that order within 10 seconds of pressing LOCK.
- Step 6: Take the second Smart Key and repeat the same sequence: Press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then LOCK, and release both in sequence.
- Step 7: The immobilizer indicator on the information display will begin blinking. If successful, a buzzer will sound three times, and the immobilizer display will stay on for 30 seconds. If there’s an error, a 3-second warning tone will sound, and programming will stop.
- Step 8: To program another Smart Key, turn the ignition OFF, remove the newly added Smart Key, and repeat the steps from the beginning.
