2017 Volkswagen Jetta – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: The 2017 Volkswagen Jetta uses a factory-installed smart key system that does not support onboard or manual programming. Any new or replacement smart key remote must be programmed using certified diagnostic tools capable of interfacing with the vehicle’s security system and electronic modules. Programming Requirements: A new, unprogrammed smart key remote fob compatible with the 2017 system Access to manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment All existing keys present during programming Proof of vehicle ownership may be required, especially if no working key is available
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Park the vehicle in a secure area and ensure the ignition is fully turned off. Gather all remote fobs to be programmed.
- Step 2: Connect a diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s OBD-II port, located under the driver’s side dashboard.
- Step 3: Using the diagnostic tool, access the electronic control system and navigate to the key or immobilizer programming section.
- Step 4: Follow the prompts on the diagnostic device to initiate the programming session. This may involve placing the new fob near the push-start button or other receiver locations, depending on system requirements.
- Step 5: Once the new fob is recognized by the system, confirm its registration. If programming more than one fob, repeat the process for each during the same session.
- Step 6: After all remotes have been programmed, complete the procedure through the diagnostic tool and disconnect the interface.
- Step 7: Test each key fob to ensure full functionality. Verify engine start, remote locking/unlocking, and proximity entry if applicable.
