Programming Guide for 2017 Volvo V40 Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Smart Key)

Important Notice: This vehicle does not support onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. Programming requires specialized diagnostic equipment and must be performed by a qualified technician. Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Locate a Qualified Professional Find a certified automotive technician or service provider who has the necessary equipment to program the smart key remote fobs for your vehicle.
  • Step 2: Consider Cost-Effective Options If your vehicle is still drivable, consider driving it to the technician’s location instead of having them come to you, which may save you money on service fees.
  • Step 3: Prepare All Key Fobs Ensure that you have all current and new key fobs ready for programming. Some systems may require all fobs to be present during the programming process.
  • Step 4: Provide Proof of Ownership The technician may require proof of ownership, such as your vehicle’s registration or title, to verify that you are the authorized owner of the vehicle.
  • Step 5: Connect to the Vehicle’s System The technician will connect specialized diagnostic equipment to your vehicle’s system, allowing them to securely access the vehicle's security system and begin programming the remote fob.
  • Step 6: Programming the Smart Key Remote Fob The technician will use the diagnostic tools to program the new remote fob, ensuring it is securely paired with your vehicle’s system and functions properly.
  • Step 7: Test the Programmed Fob Once the programming is complete, the technician will test the remote fob to confirm it works with your vehicle, including verifying the remote entry and keyless start functions.
  • Step 8: Program Additional Fobs (If Needed) If you have additional key fobs to be programmed, the technician will repeat the process for each one. All fobs should be programmed in the same session to ensure they sync properly with the vehicle's system.
