2018 BMW 4 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2018 BMW 4 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming must be completed using specialized BMW diagnostic equipment by a certified automotive technician or authorized dealer.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm that the replacement smart key fob is specifically compatible with the 2018 BMW 4 Series. Incorrect or non-matching remotes may not pair properly with the vehicle.
- Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a certified technician or authorized BMW dealer who has access to the appropriate tools and software required for secure key programming.
- Step 3: Ask if all current remotes need to be present during the programming session. Some BMW systems will deactivate remotes not included during the reprogramming process.
- Step 4: If the vehicle is in drivable condition, consider taking it to the service provider to avoid additional fees often associated with mobile service calls.
- Step 5: At the service center, the technician will connect diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s OBD-II port to initiate the key fob programming process.
- Step 6: The technician will perform a secure pairing sequence to integrate the new smart key with the vehicle’s entry, ignition, and security systems.
- Step 7: After programming, each fob will be tested to confirm proper operation of locking, unlocking, trunk release, and push-button start (if applicable).
- Step 8: Secure all programmed remotes and verify their functionality before concluding the service session.
