Programming Guide for 2018 Buick Regal TourX Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Smart Key / Keyless Access System)
Overview: The 2018 Regal TourX supports smart key programming using the Keyless Access system. Depending on your situation, you can program new remote transmitters either: With two currently recognized transmitters Without any recognized transmitters Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters Follow these steps if you already have two functional RKE transmitters and want to add another.
- Step 1: Place both existing transmitters into the designated storage bin with the lock icon. (This bin is typically found in the center console or beneath the cupholder liner.)
- Step 2: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s side door handle.
- Step 3: Insert the mechanical key from the new transmitter into the driver's door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready for Remote #3”, #4, or the next available slot.
- Step 4: Place the new transmitter into the storage bin, buttons facing up.
- Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. → The DIC will confirm that the new transmitter is successfully programmed.
- Step 6: Remove the new transmitter and press the unlock button to test functionality.
- Step 7: Repeat Steps 3–6 to program any additional transmitters.
- Step 8: Once complete, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Reinsert the mechanical key into the new transmitter and reinstall the key lock cylinder cap.
Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this process when no working transmitters are available. The full procedure takes about 30 minutes and supports up to eight transmitters.
- Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s side door.
- Step 2: Insert the mechanical key into the door lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The DIC will show: “Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.”
- Step 3: Wait approximately 10 minutes until the DIC changes to: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.” Then, press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
- Step 4: The message will return to “Remote Learn Pending.” Repeat Step 3 two more times (three 10-minute cycles in total).
- Step 5: After the third cycle, the DIC will display: “Ready for Remote #1.”
- Step 6: Place the first new transmitter into the storage bin, with the buttons facing upward.
- Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button to program the remote. → The DIC will confirm the addition and prompt for the next transmitter.
- Step 8: Remove the remote and press the unlock button to confirm it is working.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 6–8 for each additional transmitter (up to eight total).
- Step 10: Once all desired remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 11: Reinsert the mechanical key into the transmitter and reinstall the key lock cylinder cap.
Important Notes:
Transmitter Limit: Up to eight remote transmitters can be stored in the system.
Battery Status: Ensure each remote has a functioning battery prior to programming.
Timing Requirements: Key turns and button presses must occur within specified timeframes.
Remote Memory Reset: If programming without any recognized transmitter, previously stored remotes will be erased from the vehicle’s system.
