2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport – Keyless Entry Remote Fob & Smart Key Programming Instructions
A. Remote Head Key System Important Notice: This procedure requires two working remote head keys to program an additional key using onboard steps. If only one key is available, programming cannot be performed using this method.
Programming the Ignition Key Function:
- Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine. Leave it on for 5 seconds.
- Step 2: Turn the ignition to the “LOCK” position and remove the key.
- Step 3: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the “ON” position.
- Step 4: Wait approximately 10 seconds until the immobilizer light on the dashboard begins to blink.
- Step 5: When the light starts blinking, turn the key to “LOCK” and remove it.
- Step 6: Within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key and turn it to the “ON” position. Ensure this is done while the immobilizer light is still blinking. ]
- Step 7: If successful, the immobilizer light will remain on for 3 seconds and then turn off. If it turns off prematurely or fails to respond, the programming was unsuccessful.
- Step 8: To program another key, repeat Steps 1 through 7. Programming the Remote Lock/Unlock Functions:
Note: This procedure programs only the remote control buttons. The key must already be programmed for ignition use.
- Step 1: Gather all remotes (both current and new) that you wish to program.
- Step 2: With a working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
- Step 3: While holding UNLOCK, press and hold the LOCK button as well.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds, release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in sequence. The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm entry into programming mode. All previously stored remotes (except the one used) will be erased.
- Step 5: Within 60 seconds, program additional remotes using the following sequence: Press and hold both LOCK and UNLOCK for 2 seconds Release both buttons for 1 second Press and release the UNLOCK button
- Step 6: The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 5 for each remote you wish to program, completing all within 60 seconds.
- Step 8: If no further remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the system will automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Test all remotes to verify functionality.
B. Smart Key System Important Notice: To add a new Smart Key using the onboard method, two already programmed Smart Keys are required. If only one key is available, this procedure cannot be completed using the vehicle alone.
Smart Key Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the entire programming process. Do not open or close any other doors.
- Step 2: While carrying the first working Smart Key, turn the ignition to the “ON” position (do not start the engine). Begin the following steps within 30 seconds.
- Step 3: Insert the new, unprogrammed Smart Key into the designated key slot, following the proper orientation.
- Step 4: With the first Smart Key, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds. Then press and hold the LOCK button while still holding UNLOCK.
- Step 5: Release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in sequence within 10 seconds of pressing LOCK.
- Step 6: With the second programmed Smart Key, repeat the same process: Press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds Press and hold LOCK Release both buttons in order within 10 seconds
- Step 7: The immobilizer indicator in the multi-information display will begin blinking. If programming is successful, a buzzer will sound three times and the immobilizer icon will remain on for approximately 30 seconds.
- Step 8: If programming fails, a 3-second buzzer will sound and the system will exit without completing the process.
- Step 9: To program another Smart Key, turn the ignition off, remove the newly added Smart Key, and begin again from Step 1.
