2018 Subaru Legacy Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2018 Subaru Legacy does not support onboard programming for its smart key remote fob. Programming requires the use of specialized diagnostic tools and must be completed by a qualified automotive technician.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Schedule an appointment with a certified technician or automotive service provider who has the necessary tools and experience to program smart key systems.
  • Step 2: If your vehicle is operational, it may be more cost-effective to bring it to the service location instead of requesting mobile assistance.
  • Step 3: The technician will connect professional diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard computer system to initiate the programming process.
  • Step 4: After the new smart key fob is registered, the technician will test its functions—including lock, unlock, and push-button start—to ensure proper operation.

Additional Notes:

  • If no working remotes are available, you may be asked to provide proof of ownership, such as vehicle registration or title. In some cases, all existing remotes must be present during programming to retain their functionality. Make sure your technician has experience with Subaru smart key systems to ensure accuracy and compatibility.
