2019 BMW 2 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2019 BMW 2 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. A new fob must be programmed using specialized diagnostic tools by a certified automotive technician or authorized dealership.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Confirm that the smart key fob is fully compatible with the 2019 BMW 2 Series. Using an incorrect fob may result in failed programming or limited functionality.
  • Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a qualified technician or BMW dealer who has access to the necessary diagnostic equipment to perform smart key programming.
  • Step 3: Ask whether all previously programmed remotes must be present during the session. Some systems may remove remotes that are not reprogrammed at the same time.
  • Step 4: If the vehicle is operable, consider driving it to the technician’s service location. This is often more cost-effective than requesting a mobile programming visit.
  • Step 5: At the service location, the technician will connect a diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port to access the key programming menu.
  • Step 6: A secure software process will be used to pair the new smart key fob with the vehicle’s entry, ignition, and security systems.
  • Step 7: Once programming is complete, the technician will test each fob to confirm all functions work properly—including lock/unlock, trunk release, and engine start (if equipped).
  • Step 8: Store all remotes safely and verify their functionality before completing the session.
