2019 BMW 5 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2019 BMW 5 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming requires the use of BMW-certified diagnostic tools and must be completed by a qualified automotive technician or authorized dealer.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Ensure the replacement smart key remote fob is fully compatible with the 2019 BMW 5 Series. Using an incorrect fob may result in failed programming or limited functionality.
- Step 2: Schedule service with a certified technician or authorized BMW service center equipped with the required diagnostic equipment and software to perform secure key fob programming.
- Step 3: Ask whether all existing remote fobs must be present during programming. Some BMW systems will erase any keys not included in the session.
- Step 4: If the vehicle is drivable, consider bringing it to the service location to minimize costs typically associated with mobile programming appointments.
- Step 5: At the service facility, the technician will connect specialized diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard port to initiate the key programming process.
- Step 6: The technician will carry out a secure procedure to register the new smart key with the vehicle’s electronic systems, enabling full functionality such as remote locking, trunk release, and engine start.
- Step 7: Upon completion, all remotes will be tested to ensure they function correctly and communicate reliably with the vehicle.
- Step 8: Safely store the newly programmed remotes and verify full functionality before ending the session.
