2019 Buick Regal

Programming Guide for 2019 Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Smart Key System)

Overview: The 2019 Regal uses a Keyless Access system. You can program new remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitters using two methods: If you have two recognized RKE transmitters, use the onboard programming method. If no transmitters are currently recognized, use the alternate 30-minute procedure. Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters Use this method to add a new transmitter when two programmed RKE transmitters are available.

  • Step 1: Place both recognized RKE transmitters in the storage bin marked with a lock icon. (This is typically inside the center console or armrest.)
  • Step 2: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the exterior door handle of the driver's door.
  • Step 3: Use the mechanical key from the new transmitter to turn the driver door lock to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: ""Ready for Remote #3"", #4, etc.
  • Step 4: Place the new transmitter into the storage bin, buttons facing up.
  • Step 5: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. → When the transmitter is successfully programmed, the DIC will prompt for the next remote.
  • Step 6: Remove the transmitter and press the unlock button to confirm.
  • Step 7: Repeat Steps 3–6 to add additional transmitters.
  • Step 8: When all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Reinsert the mechanical key into the transmitter and reinstall the key lock cylinder cap.

Programming Without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if no RKE transmitters are currently programmed. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • Step 1: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver’s side door.
  • Step 2: Use the mechanical key from the new transmitter to turn the door lock to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. → The DIC will display: ""Remote Learn Pending. Please Wait.""
  • Step 3: Wait 10 minutes until the DIC changes to: ""Press Engine Start Button to Learn."" Then, press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 4: The DIC will return to ""Remote Learn Pending."" Repeat Step 3 two more times (three 10-minute cycles in total).
  • Step 5: After the third cycle, the DIC will display: ""Ready for Remote #1.""
  • Step 6: Place the first new transmitter into the storage bin, buttons facing upward.
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. → When accepted, the DIC will display readiness for the next transmitter.
  • Step 8: Remove the transmitter from the storage bin and press the unlock button.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6–8 for any additional transmitters (up to eight total can be programmed).
  • Step 10: Once all desired transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the emergency key into the transmitter and reinstall the key lock cylinder cap.

Additional Notes:

Maximum Capacity: Up to eight transmitters can be programmed to the vehicle.

Battery Reminder: Ensure each transmitter has a fully charged or new battery before beginning the process.

Timing: All steps involving door locks and button presses must be completed within the required timeframes to avoid errors.

System Reset: If programming without a recognized transmitter, all previous transmitters will be erased from the system.
