Programming Guide for 2019 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS
(Smart Key System Only)
Important Information Before You Begin: This procedure is designed for vehicles equipped with a Smart Key system. All transmitters to be programmed must be present during the process. The vehicle must be completely turned off before starting. Two recognized remotes are required for standard programming. A maximum of eight transmitters can be stored in the system. Vehicles sold in Canada may require dealer programming when no remotes are recognized.
Programming with Two Recognized Transmitters: Use this method if two previously programmed transmitters are available.
- Step 1: Ensure the ignition is off and the vehicle is not running.
- Step 2: Remove the mechanical keys from both recognized transmitters.
- Step 3: Place both recognized transmitters inside the front cupholder.
- Step 4: Remove the key lock cylinder cap from the driver door handle.
- Step 5: Insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 6: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready for Remote #2, 3, 4, etc.”
- Step 7: Open the center console, remove the rubber mat, and place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
- Step 8: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will confirm when the transmitter has been learned.
- Step 9: Remove the transmitter from the pocket and press either the lock or unlock button to confirm successful programming.
- Step 10: Repeat Steps 7 through 9 for each additional remote.
- Step 11: Once all desired transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 12: Reinsert the mechanical key into each transmitter.
Programming Without Recognized Transmitters: Use this method if no previously programmed transmitters are available.
Important Notes: This process requires three security delay cycles, each lasting approximately 10 minutes. Not available for Canadian-market vehicles. Have all remotes to be programmed available before starting.
- Step 1: Confirm that the vehicle is turned off and secure.
- Step 2: Remove the mechanical key from the new transmitter.
- Step 3: Remove the cap from the key lock cylinder on the driver’s door handle.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the cylinder and rotate it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display: “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
- Step 6: Wait for approximately 10 minutes until the DIC prompts: “Press Engine Start Button to Learn.”
- Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The system will return to the previous message.
- Step 8: Repeat Steps 6 and 7 two more times. After the third cycle, the DIC will display: “Ready for Remote #1.”
- Step 9: Open the center console, remove the rubber mat, and place the first new transmitter into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
- Step 10: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When accepted, the DIC will indicate readiness for the next transmitter.
- Step 11: Remove the transmitter and press either the lock or unlock button to confirm programming.
- Step 12: Repeat Steps 9 through 11 for any additional remotes.
- Step 13: Once all remotes are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
- Step 14: Return the mechanical key into the housing of each transmitter.
