Programming Guide for 2019 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming of remote fobs. You can add new remotes using two recognized fobs or follow a timed sequence if none are available. Up to eight remote fobs can be registered. Carefully follow the applicable instructions below.

Programming with Two Recognized Remote Fobs: Use this method if you currently have two working remote fobs:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely turned off and all doors are securely closed.
  • Step 2: Place both recognized remote fobs into the front cupholder.
  • Step 3: Remove the cap from the key lock cylinder on the outside of the driver’s door handle to expose the lock.
  • Step 4: Insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. This activates programming mode. The dashboard will display READY FOR REMOTE #2 or a similar message.
  • Step 5: Open the center console storage compartment between the front seats. Lift the tray to access the transmitter pocket beneath.
  • Step 6: Place the new remote fob into the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 7: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once. The system will detect and learn the new remote, then display readiness to program the next.
  • Step 8: Remove the newly programmed remote and press the Lock or Unlock button to confirm functionality.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 6 through 8 for each additional remote you wish to program.
  • Step 10: Once all desired remotes have been programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote fob.
  • Step 12: Reattach the key cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Programming Without Recognized Remote Fobs: If no working remotes are available, follow this process. It requires approximately 30 minutes to complete.

  • Step 1: Verify that the vehicle is turned off and all doors are closed.
  • Step 2: Remove the key cylinder cap from the driver’s door handle.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the lock and turn it to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The instrument display will read REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
  • Step 4: Wait approximately 10 minutes until prompted with PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
  • Step 5: The display will return to the waiting message. Repeat Step 4 two more times, for a total of three 10-minute cycles.
  • Step 6: After the third cycle, all previously stored remotes will be removed. The display will show READY FOR REMOTE #1.
  • Step 7: Open the center console, lift the tray, and place the new remote into the transmitter pocket.
  • Step 8: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The remote will be programmed and the system will prepare for the next one.
  • Step 9: Remove the remote and press the Lock or Unlock button to confirm it was successfully added.
  • Step 10: Repeat Steps 7 through 9 to program any additional remotes.
  • Step 11: Once all programming is complete, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Reinsert the mechanical key into the remote.
  • Step 13: Reinstall the key lock cylinder cap on the driver’s door handle.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Remotes: Up to eight smart fobs can be programmed for this vehicle.

Timing is Critical: Ensure steps involving key turns and button presses are completed promptly to avoid resetting the process.

Ownership Verification: If no remotes are available and technician assistance is needed, proof of ownership may be required.
