2019 Mitsubishi Outlander – Key Fob & Smart Key Programming Instructions
Standard Key or Remote Head Key – Ignition Programming This process allows a newly cut key to be programmed for engine start. Not applicable to Canadian-market vehicles. Requires the use of two previously accepted keys to initiate the programming sequence.
- Step 1: Insert a recognized key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds. Then turn it back to LOCK and remove it.
- Step 2: Within 30 seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to the ON position.
- Step 3: After approximately 10 seconds, the immobilizer indicator should begin flashing.
- Step 4: When the indicator blinks, turn the ignition OFF and remove the second key.
- Step 5: Within 30 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON position. If the immobilizer light stays solid for 3 seconds and then shuts off, the programming is complete. If not, restart the procedure from Step 1.
- Step 6: Verify the new key starts the vehicle correctly.
- Step 7: Repeat the process to add additional keys as needed. Remote Head Key – Remote Button Programming This section programs the lock and unlock buttons on a Remote Head Key.
At least one functional remote is required to initiate programming mode.
- Step 1: Ensure all remotes to be used are present. Remotes not included in this process will be erased.
- Step 2: Using a working remote, press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK while still holding UNLOCK.
- Step 3: Release LOCK, then UNLOCK, within 10 seconds. The door locks should cycle to indicate entry into programming mode.
- Step 4: Within 60 seconds, program each remote by: Pressing LOCK and UNLOCK simultaneously for 2 seconds Releasing both buttons for 1 second Pressing and releasing UNLOCK
- Step 5: The door locks will cycle after each remote is programmed successfully.
- Step 6: If no remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the system will automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 7: Test all remotes to confirm lock/unlock functionality. Smart Key – Remote & Push-to-Start Programming This procedure adds a new Smart Key for vehicles with push-button start. Only the driver’s door should be open; do not open or close any other doors during programming.
Smart Key Registration Process
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the procedure.
- Step 2: While carrying an existing Smart Key, turn the ignition ON without starting the engine. Continue within 30 seconds.
- Step 3: Insert the new Smart Key into the key slot in the correct direction.
- Step 4: On the first Smart Key, press and hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press LOCK while still holding UNLOCK.
- Step 5: Release LOCK, then UNLOCK in that order within 10 seconds.
- Step 6: On the second Smart Key, repeat the same sequence: Hold UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, press LOCK, then release both in order.
- Step 7: The immobilizer icon will blink on the multi-information display. If programming succeeds, a buzzer will sound three times, and the display will remain lit for 30 seconds. If an error occurs, a 3-second tone will sound, and programming will stop.
- Step 8: To register an additional Smart Key, turn off the ignition, remove the newly added key, and repeat the process starting at Step 1.
