2019 Subaru Ascent Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2019 Subaru Ascent does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. A certified technician must perform the programming using factory-grade diagnostic equipment.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Contact a qualified automotive technician or authorized service provider who is equipped to program smart key systems using specialized diagnostic tools.
  • Step 2: Confirm that the technician is experienced with proximity-based keyless entry systems to ensure accurate and secure programming.
  • Step 3: If your vehicle is drivable, consider taking it directly to the technician’s service location. This can help reduce overall service costs compared to mobile service calls.
  • Step 4: Bring all currently active remotes with you, as some systems require all fobs to be reprogrammed at the same time to remain functional.
  • Step 5: Have proof of vehicle ownership available, such as your registration or title, especially if all keys are lost or being replaced.
  • Step 6: The technician will connect advanced diagnostic equipment to your vehicle’s onboard system to initiate the remote programming procedure.
  • Step 7: The new smart key remote fob will be electronically registered to your vehicle, enabling all intended keyless entry and ignition functions.
  • Step 8: Once programming is completed, the technician will verify that all buttons on the remote (lock, unlock, and start, if applicable) are working as intended.
  • Step 9: Confirm that all previously programmed remotes are still functional. If needed, they may be reprogrammed during the same session.
  • Step 10: For convenience and peace of mind, consider having an extra remote fob programmed as a backup in case one is lost or damaged.
