2019 Subaru Outback Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2019 Subaru Outback cannot be programmed using onboard procedures. Smart key fob registration must be completed by a qualified technician using advanced diagnostic equipment.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Confirm your vehicle uses a smart key system, typically identified by push-button start and hands-free entry features.
  • Step 2: Gather all smart key fobs currently in your possession. Some vehicles require that all keys be reprogrammed together to retain functionality.
  • Step 3: Schedule a visit with a trained technician or authorized service provider equipped with the correct diagnostic tools for secure key programming.
  • Step 4: If your vehicle is drivable, transporting it directly to the technician may help reduce costs compared to mobile service.
  • Step 5: Be prepared to provide proof of ownership, such as a valid vehicle title or registration, before the technician begins programming.
  • Step 6: The technician will connect a scan tool to the vehicle’s OBD-II port to access the electronic control module responsible for keyless entry and ignition.
  • Step 7: Using the scan tool, the technician will register the new smart key fob to the vehicle’s system. Any existing keys may also be reprogrammed during this process.
  • Step 8: Following successful programming, the technician will verify proper function of the new key, including lock/unlock, trunk release, and push-button ignition.

Additional Considerations:

  • Lost All Keys: If you no longer have any working fobs, expect additional verification requirements and potentially longer service times. Key Storage Limits: Most Subaru systems store up to four smart keys. If this limit is reached, older keys may need to be deleted to add a new one. Test Before Leaving: Ensure the new fob is working correctly before departing the service location, including remote and ignition functions.
