2020 BMW 2 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2020 BMW 2 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. All programming must be completed using specialized diagnostic tools by a certified automotive technician or authorized BMW dealer.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Verify that the replacement smart key fob is fully compatible with the 2020 BMW 2 Series. A mismatched fob may not function or pair with the vehicle’s systems.
- Step 2: Schedule service with a qualified automotive technician or dealership that has the proper diagnostic equipment for BMW smart key programming.
- Step 3: Ask whether all current remote fobs must be present during the session. Some systems will remove remotes not included in the reprogramming process.
- Step 4: If your vehicle is driveable, consider bringing it directly to the technician’s location to potentially reduce programming costs.
- Step 5: At the service center, the technician will connect professional diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port to access the key programming system.
- Step 6: A secure programming procedure will be used to pair the new smart key remote fob with the vehicle’s locking, ignition, and security systems.
- Step 7: Once programming is complete, all remotes will be tested to confirm proper operation, including locking, unlocking, trunk access, and push-button start (if applicable).
- Step 8: Securely store all programmed remotes and confirm that each one functions as expected before completing the session.
