2020 BMW 5 Series – Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2020 BMW 5 Series does not support onboard programming for smart key remote fobs. Programming must be completed by a certified technician or authorized dealer using BMW-approved diagnostic equipment.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm that the replacement smart key fob is compatible with the 2020 BMW 5 Series. Incompatible fobs may not program correctly or could result in limited functionality.
- Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a certified technician or authorized BMW service center equipped with the necessary diagnostic tools and software.
- Step 3: Ask whether all currently programmed remotes must be present. Many BMW systems require that all existing fobs be reprogrammed together, or else some may be erased from the system.
- Step 4: If your vehicle is operational, consider transporting it to the service facility to avoid potential additional charges for mobile programming services.
- Step 5: At the service location, the technician will connect BMW-specific diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard interface to access the key programming system.
- Step 6: A secure pairing procedure will be initiated to register the new smart key with the vehicle’s systems, enabling remote locking, unlocking, trunk release, and push-button start.
- Step 7: After programming is complete, the technician will test all smart key functions to confirm successful integration with the vehicle.
- Step 8: Store all programmed remotes securely and verify that each fob functions properly before concluding the service appointment.
