2020 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2020 BMW X5 does not allow for onboard programming. Smart key remotes must be programmed by a certified technician or authorized dealer using specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Step 1: Identify whether you're replacing a lost remote or adding a new one. Most systems require all remotes to be programmed together during a single session.
- Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a certified technician or authorized dealer equipped with the appropriate diagnostic tools for BMW smart key programming.
- Step 3: Bring all current remotes to the service appointment. Any remotes not present may be deactivated during the process and will no longer function.
- Step 4: If the vehicle is operational, driving it to the technician's location is usually more cost-effective than requesting mobile service.
- Step 5: If no functioning remotes are available, ensure you bring proof of ownership—such as a vehicle registration or title—before programming can begin.
- Step 6: The technician will connect specialized equipment to your vehicle’s onboard system to access the keyless entry programming interface.
- Step 7: The new remote will be securely programmed and synced with the vehicle’s security and ignition system.
- Step 8: The technician will test the remote’s core features—such as lock, unlock, and start—to confirm successful pairing.
- Step 9: You should test additional functions yourself, such as trunk release, proximity entry, and the panic alarm, to ensure everything works correctly.
- Step 10: If multiple remotes are being programmed, they must all be registered during the same session, typically within 30 seconds of each other.
