2020 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2020 BMW X6 does not support onboard programming. Programming of smart key remotes must be performed by a certified technician or authorized dealer using specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Step 1: Identify whether you're replacing a lost remote or adding a new one. Most systems require all remotes to be programmed together in one session.
- Step 2: Schedule an appointment with a certified technician or authorized dealer who is equipped with BMW-compatible programming tools.
- Step 3: Bring all functional remotes with you. Remotes not present during the programming session may be removed from the system and will no longer work.
- Step 4: If the vehicle is operable, driving it to the technician’s location is often more cost-effective than requesting mobile service.
- Step 5: If no key fob is currently working, be prepared to show valid proof of ownership—such as a title or vehicle registration—before programming can begin.
- Step 6: The technician will connect specialized diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s onboard interface to access the key fob programming system.
- Step 7: The new smart key will be electronically paired with the vehicle’s control unit, enabling it to manage door locks, ignition, and remote access features.
- Step 8: Once programming is complete, the technician will test the key fob’s primary functions such as locking, unlocking, and starting the engine.
- Step 9: Test the remote yourself to confirm that all features—including trunk release, panic alarm, and proximity entry—are working correctly.
- Step 10: If multiple remotes are being programmed, each one must be added during the same session, usually within a 30-second window, to ensure full integration.
